Regional policy is the primary common means at the service of island territories to overcome structural constraints and to make the most of their potential for development and growth.
However, improvement is needed in policies to enable that islands are not only a legal part of the European internal market, but also develop a more comprehensive role in both economic and social terms.
The Government of the Balearic Islands, in line with the Vice presidency of the Spanish Government, believes that the current Spanish Presidency is without doubt a great opportunity to increase visibility and to highlight the specific needs of island regions in Europe.
